This will be a personal transponder event. Specific details in regards to technical inspection, scheduling, entry fees, etc, will be forthcoming in the new year. July 2, 2005 Ontario 1/8 Race No. 4 Report The racers woke up on Saturday morning to what was going to be the best weather we've had to date. 25 deg. and not a cloud in the sky. The evening prior to the event the "Track Setup Crew" were busy preparing the surface. The track was in immaculate condition and people were talking about track records being broken. We also had a few new faces show up for the event. Corey DeLong from Rochester, NY and Raye "Fossil" Field even made an appearance. Fast 200mm nitro driver Park Liu was out from Toronto with his new Serpent 710, and the R/C "O" team (www.rcontario.com) made an appearance. Let's hope to see these guys out on a regular basis. As the cars took to the track for practice it was evident that today was going to a fast day of racing. Both of Jordan Krupp's Serpent cars looked "dialed". Was today going to be his day? John Elliot took to the track and it was obvious that he had made improvements to his Delta XP4 since the last event...Lou Vanderway was working on his Serpent 950 in the morning..could he get the gremlins worked out before the mains? The 200mm Nitro class saw one of its best turnouts to date. During practice it was evident that the cars looked closely matched. Serpent has taken the first 2 wins...was it going to continue? John Rabbito's Kyosho RRR looked great again but could he finish a main? John Posthumus brought out his Chief Engineer Scott Smither...his car looked dialed (NTC3). Park Liu was sorting out his new ride (Serpent 710) but was getting faster every run. Steve Dawe's NTC3 was looking good also...was this to be R/C "O"'s day?!! The 1/10 Open class was fast...Bill McLean was out and pushing Jordan in morning practice. Peter Somers and Shawn Price looked mighty fast also...was a 200mm open car going to take a win? Could Bill push Jordan into making a mistake...he loves those boards!!! The 1/10 electric class saw total domination by Team R/C "O"...Steve and Mike Dawe were "tradin'" paint all morning..this was going to be intersting to watch!! As the 1/8 Open "B" Main took to the track, it was Gary Swayze that took the TQ followed by Shawn Price, Doug Mitchell, Steve Jackson, Rob Dugal and Corey Delong. At the sound of the horn it was Gary Swayze away to an awesome start in 1st place followed closely by Shawn Price and Doug Mitchell. Corey Delong was coming up through the field quickly. It was obvious that he had sorted out his morning gremlins and he was turning some fast times. Gary looked like a shoe-in until he had trouble and fell out on the 14th lap. As the heat came to a close it was Corey Delong 1st (Mugen MRX4), Shawn Price 2nd (Mugen MRX3) and Doug Mitchell 3rd (Serpent 950). Shawn Price turned in the fastest lap of the Main with a 23.078. Next up was the "A" Main 1/8 Open. Jordan Krupp took overall TQ honors for the 1/8 class followed by John Elliot, Lou Vanderway, Ron Prinzen, John Rabbito and Raye Field. Was the track record going down??!! The main got off to quick start but soon after two drivers were out. John Elliot who looked so promising during qualifying but was out followed by John Rabbito. Jordan cruised to an easy win in 1/8 Open (Serpent 950). Raye Field (Delta XP4) split Jordan and Lou Vanderway (Serpent 950)handing the overall Championship Points lead to Jordan Krupp. After Lou's total domination of the series so far, Jordan sweeps the lead from under his feet. Can't wait till the next event. It was evident the entire 1/8 field was getting faster. I am sure there will be new faces in the 1/8 "A" main next event... Next up was the Electric 1/10 main. The Father son rivalry brought back memories of Mario and son Michael (Andretti of course!!). As the main started these two were trading paint...but it was evident that today was going to be the day for the prodigy. Mike Dawe not only won but put a lap on Steve...looks like bragging rights until the next race for Mike!! The 1/10 200mm Nitro class the field looked close. Steve Dawe took overall TQ with what was one of the best fields to date. As the race got under way it was obvious this was going to be a fast one. John Rabbito and John Posthumus took off early with what was 1-2 break away. Steve Dawe was battling it out with Park Liu and Corey Delong. On this day the Kyosho RRR/Max Power combo of John Rabbito proved a little much for the field and cruised to a win 2 laps ahead of the field. It was the first win for the Kyosho RRR at Hamilton. John Posthumus looked fast...maybe next race!!. I am sure the field will improve at the next event and the racing will be even closer. Look out for Park, Steve, John Posthumus, Massimo Fantozzi and the bunch at the next event. This class is Super quick and competitive. Last but not least, the 1/10 Open Class. Jordan and Bill proved a little much for the field on this day. Jordan Krupp fresh off a win in the 1/8 Open class cruises to another win. This guy’s on fire!! Bill McLean proved real quick also but just couldn't match the pace of Jordan’s Serpent Impact. Peter Somers and Shawn Price were battling it out but the boards got the better of Shawn on this day...The action is HOT in 1/10 Open. Will we see Gary Swayze pull out the 835 next event? What do Peter and Shawn have in the bag for the next event? At the close of the day the action proved fast and furious. It’s obvious that the competition is getting tight in all the classes. We had new winners in 1/8 Open and 1/10 200mm Nitro. Who is it going to be next race? Can Jordan keep his streak alive? Will the field catch up in 200mm nitro? I am sure we will see new winners at the next event...will it be you!!! June 18, 2005 The results from Ontario 1/8 Race No.3 may be viewed by clicking here. August 30, 2004 The 2004 Ontario 1/8 Can-Am Challenge was sucessfully completed despite the rain that fell on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday we managed to get in a good practice session as well as 1 round of 1/8 Open qualifying and 2 rounds of 1/10 Open-Touring qualifying before the rain showers forced the track closure. The forecast for Sunday was absolutely dismal: heavy showers from mid morning through the afternoon. We sprayed the track early and started the 45 minute practice session at 9:45. We ran one round of 1/8 Open quailfying and cut the 1/10 Open-Touring "A" Main down to 30 minutes. The 1/8 Open "B" Main finished as scheduled at 30 minutes and we manged to race 51 minutes of the planned 60 before the rain caused the "A" Main to be red flagged. Mike Burr won the 1/8 "A" Main with Wayne Vince one lap down in second place and John Elliot finishing in third place. Jordan Krupp was the winner of the 1/8 "B" Main with Raye Field in second and Glenn Cauley finishing in third place. The 1/10 Open and 1/10 Touring mains were run together. The 1/10 Open "A" Main was won by Jordan Krupp with Bill McLean finishing in the second position. 1/10 Touring "A" Main was won by Ross Chiaramonte. Raymond Duchesne and Dave Presnail were the second and third place finishers of the 1/10 Touring "A" Main. Please click here to view the race results.
